Inlay personalizes a clock

In my woodworking shop, I built a clock using inlays to make it a special gift for one of my golfing buddies who won our golf league this year.  The name of the league is the NEO Nomads, because we are a traveling league and play all over Northeastern Ohio.  So using the theme of "nomad" I tried to depict a desert scene with the silhouette of a camel and a pyramid illuminated by a bright full moon.

Here is the result:

woodworking inlay clock project, Finished-inlay-clock

I bought a brass plate from the local trophy shop and clock parts from the the local hardware store.  You can also find clock parts at  Rocklers, a fine woodworking store .  I placed the moon right over a knot in the walnut and the grain of the wood gives it an interesting look.  I used some real grainy red oak for the sand , giving it some texture and used some cherry for the inlays to give it just a little contrast with the oak.  The moon is made of maple. The nice thing about the project is that I used scrap pieces from bigger woodworking projects and only invested about $12-$15.

On the following pages I will explain how I made this woodworker's clock.
