Woodworking project: Treasure box

Part 2:  the lid

The treasure boxes were gifts for my grandsons, Ezra and Kenton.  So the idea was to put their names on the lids using the same inlay technique I used for the plaque woodworking project.

The first step was creating a font for their names.  The inlay kit has some limitations.  You cannot create sharp corners so most usual fonts won't work.  I basically started with blow-ups of the comic sans ms font and morphed the letters I needed so that they would work with the router inlay kit.

This seemed to work for EZRA, but I totally abandoned this plan for KENTON, and designed my own font.

The next steps are just like the plaque inlay project:  cut out letters, attach them to the template, rout out the template, and use the template to rout out letters and cavities for the letters.  I used purple heart to create the letters.

The letters were too big to fit on a single template, so I carefully laid out two of them so that the letters would be exactly the same distance from the top and centered.

Here is a picture of the finished project.
