Woodworking project: Treasure box

When my kids were about 5 and 7 my father-in-law made my kids what he called treasure boxes for Christmas.  The boxes were simply nailed together, had a hinged top that could be locked with a simple hasp and padlock,  My kids both cherished the boxes where they could store their "secret stuff" and things that they thought were valuable or at least worth saving.  Now my own grandkids are about the same age and my wife came up with the idea to create treasure boxes for them using some some advanced woodworking.

So here is the treasure box that I designed and made for my grandsons for Christmas last year.

It features their names inlayed in the top, dovetailed joints and a lockset with key.
